I have a deep interest in the human mind and body. I’m continuously fascinated by the body’s ability to adapt to physical stress. Initially a breakdown occurs, but that’s quickly followed by growth and strength in order to take on the challenges the body anticipates. The mind, too, adapts to stress with growth and change in order to better manage anticipated needs. While the body builds strength in the muscles, bones, tendons, etc., the mind has the capacity to make new neural connections (neuroplacticity) and literally carve out new thinking patterns. Both of these are achieved through exercise! With the former you stress the muscles and joints, with the latter you think and emote outside of your box. Ultimately, moving your body encourages your mind to create new networks, which builds your mind’s abilities and capacities.
I love learning, especially about how to transform my body and mind. I find immense pleasure in taking on challenges in both arenas just to see how malleable I am. While change and growth are not for the faint of heart, the rewards are enormous. The capacity of the mind and body to grow with committed, persistent effort is nothing short of amazing.
For all of us, whether we realize it or not, all three realms of emotion, cognition, and kinesthetics are interwoven and have impact on each other. For some, physical movement elicits emotion, which can be quite unsettling. For others, the rise of emotion causes a desire to escape using a physical outlet. The expression of one can lead to the other, or the other two. Understanding how each of these manifests in you leads to insight and choice.
If you don’t understand or even pay attention to why you do things, how can you have a choice about them? How will you change that part of you that isn’t cohesive with your values if you don’t understand your motives? I work with the many dynamic parts of you to find your motivators, values and confidence. There is no better reward for me than witnessing my clients accomplish something that has been out of reach or seemed impossible.
Slowing down to understand the method and meaning of change is powerful. Feeling confident that you’re accomplishing all that life has to offer is priceless.
