To want what we don't have.
Yearning. Rumination. Fantasy.
Our human plight.
Our self-inflicted suffering.
And, when we get what we long for it becomes stale and obsolete.
Without pause, the longing begins again.
What if it's not what we have that becomes stale and obsolete but ourselves? What if it is us that has become stagnant? How do we remedy apathy?
There is no fantasy or elixir to save you from yourself.
How will you distinguish dream from delusion? When is the promise of fulfillment chicanery?
Can you face your hunger without eating? Feel your itch without scratching?
Can you forgo the stopgap and instead shine a light on the fraud that promises comfort? Can you hold the magic potion without drinking?
What might you find if you abstain from your craving?
What you long for, what promises fulfillment, warrants a second glance. Illuminate your mirage and expose what you hope to conceal.
There is peace in knowing.
